It’s nice to see Mel Brooks is maintaining a sense of humor, considering his lovely wife of 41 years Anne Bancroft recently passed away. Here’s an amusing story about a fan running into Mel:

ALL that caffeine seems to be keeping Mel Brooks’ wit in tip-top shape. While holding late-night court last week at French Roast, the 24-hour Greenwich Village cafe’ that’s fast becoming his favorite haunt. The creator of “The Producers” was approached by a woman who offered condolences on the passing of his beloved wife, Anne Bancroft, “I know how you feel, I just lost my mother,” the woman said. “How old was she?” asked Mel. “Ninety-six,” the woman replied. “Well,” said Mel, “she was asking for it.”
